Resisting Arson Attacks on Farms
Thousands of farm buildings and tens of thousands of acres of grassland are lost every year on farms in the UK to the threat of arson. Aside from the financial impact on your business this has, the inconvenience and knock-on effect of time and resources being diverted to repairs is also very significant. Our previous article on farm fires looked at the reasons why fire safety is of paramount importance on farms and highlighted the isolation of farm premises and distance from fire stations. These factors, of course, also make farms an easy target for arson attacks. You can reduce the risk of arson in several ways and our experienced and knowledgeable staff can carry out a survey to ensure you have picked up all opportunities to reduce risk. Simple measures include removing hay and straw from fields as soon as you can after harvesting, keeping in away from buildings where fuels, chemicals, machinery and livestock are kept, and leaving 10m between sections. Picking up any litter - especially glass bottles found in grass or woodlands that can focus the sun's rays and catch grass and woodland areas alight. Get in touch today to discuss your individual farm's needs and to arrange an appointment for a survey. You can contact us through our website, on Facebook, and by phone. You will also find us at a whole host of shows around the country where you can look at the various bits of equipment we work with every day and have a chat face-to-face about your own situation. Our next show is at Caledonian Marts show being held in Stirling on the 4th September.
